Course Description:

This course is specifically designed for Licensed Educational Psychologists in the state of California.  It is also appropriate for psychologists who are licensed in other states and are planning to move to California or who are interested in learning about state law in California.

The laws portion of this course is based upon the State of California Statues and the Regulations relating to the practice of Marriage and Family Therapy, Educational Psychology and Clinical Social Work issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.  It also includes a review of the Disciplinary Guidelines promulgated by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Behavioral Sciences.

The ethics portion of the course is based upon the   American Psychological Association’s (APA) code of ethics. The code was revised in  2002 and establishes the ethical principles and guidelines that are expected for all Psychologists in the United States.  If you are a currently a LEP, you most likely  read the code of ethics as a graduate student.  However, it is likely that you do not recall it in detail and that there are elements that will surprise you. Although this course is specifically designed for educational psychologists (EP) in the state of California, it may also be appropriate for other practitioners such as clinical social workers, mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists who wish to learn another perspective on ethics and law.  This course is designed for both clinicians and administrators who work in both private and public agencies.  It is targeted for beginner, intermediate and advanced practitioners

The course may meet the 6 hour mandatory license renewal requirements for many licensed professions.

Learning Objectives: This course will provide a professional with a review of the law in California and ethics. Specifically, a professional will able to:

·  Summarize broad ethical principles that reflect the profession's core values
