Course Description:
This course is based on a publication by the National Institute of Mental Health that summarizes current efforts and methods of research directed towards Autism Spectrum Disorders in the United States. It provides the mental health practitioner with a comprehensive overview of the state of the art research in autism with some recent findings and implications for future research as well as resources for referral and further information. It is a useful course for mental health practitioners who work with children and families who have been affected by any of the Autism Spectrum Disorders. It is targeted for beginning and intermediate practitioners.

Psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists can benefit from this course. This course may also be helpful for other practitioners, such as midwives and dieticians and nutritionists who work in team or multidisciplinary environments. This course is designed mainly for clinicians and direct service providers.  It is targeted for beginning and intermediate practitioners.
